Role Of Women In Islamic Society

Men and women are regarded as equal in sight of God, however there is a difference in their nature and they have been assigned different roles according to their abilities. This leads to the smooth functioning of human society. Women have the ability of bearing children and nurturing them while men are physically strong and have other duties to perform. There are three positions that they occupy in the Islamic society.

Various Roles of a Woman:

First is the role of daughter. Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) has given lot of importance in the good upbringing of daughters, he does not make any distinction between his sons and him. He also says that this person will be close to him in paradise. Second is the role of wife that a women plays in the society. The character of men in the Islamic society is established by the way he treats women. Third is the role of mother that a woman plays.

As Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) has said:

“The most perfect believer in the matter of faith is one who has excellent behavior; and the best among you are those who behave best towards their wives.” (Al-Tirmidhi)

Freedom of Expression and Women Rights:

Islam lays down special emphasis and importance on the status of women and says that women have high status as compared to men. It is also said that “Paradise is at the feet of the mother” Islam understands the role that a women plays in the upbringing of child. The future of mankind is dependent on mothers. Therefore, mothers have placed at the highest position of respect. Women are given the freedom of expression in Islam. She has complete right over her property and can spend it in the manner she like. There is a fair role of women in the economic life of Muslim society.
